Needle-Free Injections

Does the sight of a doctor, on a round, coming towards your bed make you scared? If this is so, the possible reason of your fear is the needle of the injection, that is painful to bear. Thanks to this new invention that eliminates the need of inserting a needle into the skin for the delivery of a drug.
This needle free Drug Injector has been developed by a team at MIT that uses the Lorentz-Force actuator to deliver the drug. There is a powerful magnet that is surrounded by a coil of wire. The magnet is attached to a piston, inside the drug  ampoule. When the current is applied to the coil, the magnet pushes the piston that creates an enormous amount of pressure to create a jet of drug that breaches the skin. Thus, the drug is delivered without the use of a needle.
The MIT researches have also developed a current modifier that helps to adjust the pressure of the jet, enabling high pressure and low pressure jets; high pressure jet that breaches the skin, while the low pressure jet that helps the drug get absorbed into the skin. The level of dose can be adjusted. So the injector can be used for thin skin of a child as well as thick skin of an adult.
